steel engraved map with original wash colour; overall 37 x 51 cm, image 28 x 41 cm. evenly toned; some faint foxing; a few small marginal tears; o/w vg cond.

A most attractive World map on Mercator’s projection from Levasseur’s ‘Atlas Universel Illustré’. The map is surrounded by four vignettes depicting the four seasons, surrounded by allegorical figures representing the four continents, a banner with the zodiacs and religious scenes. ‘Texas’ is mentioned.
