colour printed map, overall 55 x 67 cm. folds down to 23 x 12 cm. folds as issued; some marginal tears; some faint marginal staining; repair to one of the folds; one fold completely repaired; pin holes in corners; repair to some smaller marginal tears; o/w vg cond. beige paper cover: paper loss, edges frayed.

A very decorative pictorial map of South Africa by Ernst Ullmann, with a ‘Brief Guide to South African Travel’ on the verso. ‘Issued by The Publicity and Travel Department, South African Railways and Harbours, and printed in the Union of South Africa.’

Ullmann was born in Munich, Germany, and studied art at the Munich Academy of Fine arts, followed by studies in philosophy and art history, and further studies in Berlin.
