colour-printed mezzotint; overall 39 x 24,5 cm, plate 33 x21,5 cm. some slight foxing; verso blank; o/w exc. cond.
This print is from Weinmann’s ‘Phytanthoza Iconographia’, the first botanical book with colour-printed mezzotints! There are over 4000 plants depicted on 1025 plates which were engraved by Georg Dionysus Ehret (1708-1770), Bartholomäus Seuter (1678-1754), Johann Ridinger (1698-1767) and Johann Jakob Haid (1704-1767). Some of the plates are marked in the lower right corner with an “S” or an “H,” probably referring to the engravers Seuter or Haid.
