A very rare depiction of the historical timeline of the Roman Empire, depicted as a river, originating from a volcanic eruption and gaining girth as more countries were added to the empire, with the names of the Emporers written in the main stream. Two columns on either side list important events and people; various small vignettes with important buildings are shown on the left and right hand side. In the lower part of the print are portraits of the emporers from Augustus to Constantine.
