King, Quentin: Metro

King Posters UK  London 1983
silk screen poster; overall 90 x 64 cm, image 75 x 55 cm.  nearly mint cond.

A beautiful retro silk screen poster of a  Parisian Metro station, by Quentin King.

King was born in 1957 in Eastbourne, England. After studying graphic design at Bath Academy of Art, he worked for an advertising and design company but left after just 2 weeks as he realised that he would rather work without any commercial restraints and in 1982, he set up his own screen press and produced many – by now many very sought after – posters. In 1991, he founded Harwood King Fine Arts, a printing house that produces some of the finest silk screen prints worldwide.

Silk screen printing, also known as screen printing, serigraphy, or serigraph printing, is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil.
