copper engraved map; overall 53 x 77 cm. fold as issued; split to lower c’fold; repair to split top c’fold; various small worm holes; map pasted onto paper; some smaller marginal tears; no platemarks as issued; previous owner’s ink stamp of ‘Dépôt des cartes et plans de la Marine’; blank on verso with hand written annotation; o/w vg cond.

This map is part of a rare atlas by Zannoni: ‘Atlante geografico del regno di Napoli 1808’, showing in great detail towns, villages, rivers and mountains, engraved and printed by Guiseppe Guerra. The atlas consists of 31 double page maps which are all numbered in Arabic; however, it does exist another edition were the numbers are all Roman numerals.

Zannoni was a famous Italian cartographer who worked most of his life in Naples, first as a Geographer of the King and then director of the Topographical Office in Naples in 1781.
