copper engr map with original outline colouring;  overall 61 x 81 cm, plate 48 x 64 cm. fold as issued; some faint indentations in margins; some paper impurity within image; o/w vg.  cond.

A very attractive map of Scotland by von Reilly . With a large cartouche, decorated with a floral garland and banner, and an inset of the Orkney and Shetland Islands.

Von Reilly was a Viennese art dealer, mapmaker and publishers. From 1789 onwards until 1806, he worked on a very ambitious project to publish an atlas, ‘Schauplatz der fuenf Theile der Welt…’,  which contained 830 maps by the time of publishing.
