copper engraved map with old hand colouring. overall 32 x 40 cm, plate 28 x 34 cm. fold as issued; additional soft creases; extensive repair to lower centrefold (marginal paper loss); small wormholes within image; waterstains; some browning; on verso: various old paper hinges andstains from cellotape; c’fold re-inforced; repair to lower c’fold.; 2 worm holes in lower margin,just stopping at platemark; ink stamp on verso; o/w g cond.
An attractive map of the county of Middlesex from William Camden’s’ Britannia’, first published in 1607 but this is the 1637 edition with the added compass rose. Drawn by Norden and engraved by Kip.
